A Finished Basement Is the Cheapest Square Footage You Will Ever Add to Your Home
You already have the footprint. You already have the foundation. You are paying to heat and cool the space anyway. Finishing your basement is the single highest-ROI remodel you can do, and most Chicagoland homeowners get a 70-80% return on every dollar spent.
But basements are unforgiving. Done wrong, you get mold behind the drywall, cold floors that nobody uses, and water creeping up the baseboards every time it rains. At Alpha Development Group, we waterproof and insulate to BPI standards before any framing goes up. That is the difference between a finished basement that lasts 30 years and one that has to be torn out in five.
Our president, Tom Fisher, personally walks every basement project before it starts. He looks for the things that catch out lesser contractors: efflorescence, hairline cracks, vapor issues, ductwork in the wrong place, ceiling height. He tells you honestly what is feasible and what is not. Then VP Majd Ibrahim and General Foreman Tyler LaFlamboy run the build. Real people you can call, text, and trust.

What Our Clients Are Saying

Basement Remodeling FAQ
The questions Chicagoland homeowners ask Tom most often.
How long does a basement remodel take?
Most full basement finishes run 6 to 12 weeks. Smaller scope projects can finish in 3 to 5 weeks. Tom will give you a firm timeline at your in-home estimate.
Do you handle waterproofing and insulation?
Yes. Before any framing or drywall goes up, we address moisture, vapor barriers, and insulation. As BPI- and EPA-certified contractors, we insulate basements so they stay comfortable year-round and do not grow mold.
Can you add a bathroom or wet bar in the basement?
Yes. We rough in plumbing, drainage, and venting to add a full bathroom, wet bar, kitchenette, or laundry room. If your basement does not have plumbing roughed in already, we can usually add it.
What about egress windows for a bedroom?
Required by Illinois code for any sleeping space below grade. We handle the cut, the well, the drainage, and the inspection.
Do you finish basements with low ceilings?
We will look at it. Illinois code generally requires 7-foot finished ceilings. If your basement is close, we can sometimes design around ductwork to get there. Tom will tell you honestly if it is feasible.
Do you pull permits?
Yes. Basement finishes always require permits and inspections (electrical, plumbing, framing, final). We pull every permit and coordinate every inspection.
